Filming in Niseko, Hokkaido, for Channel News Asia

I would like to share with you a programme for which I was involved in the filming as a fixer in Japan last December. We covered the real estate boom in Niseko, a luxury ski resort in Hokkaido, Japan, for “Money Mind”, a financial TV programme by Channel NewsAsia, a Singaporean TV Network.We teamed up with a Videographer and a Sound Engineer from HBC Flex, a filming production base in Hokkaido, and filmed the interior and exterior of the newly opened luxury hotel, Setsu Niseko, along with interviews with Mr. Chris Pickering (CEO of Uchi, Real Estate Online Service) and Mr. Jonathan Martin (Chairman of Niseko Alpine Developments).

Due in part to the weak yen, investment in Niseko from abroad is very popular and property-related prices seem to keep rising. Chris told us that in the last ten years, property prices have risen by about three times and land prices by about ten times. We also had the opportunity to visit the Setsu Niseko hotel for shooting inside and found it to be an excellent hotel with not only high quality facilities and furnishings, but also a high level of service in the restaurant and the lounges.

If you are interested in investing in Niseko property, now is a great time to do so. There are some great hotels, and the snow quality there is by far the best in Japan, so even if you just want to go skiing, I think you'll have a lot of fun.
